The Official Dress Code
The APSARA National Authority enforces a strict dress code at all heritage sites. Both men and women must have their shoulders and knees fully covered to pass security checkpoints.
- Strictly Prohibited: Sleeveless tops, tank tops, crop tops, plunging necklines, short skirts, tight leggings, and shorts above the knee.
- The Scarf Rule Warning: Simply throwing a temporary scarf, shawl, or sarong over bare shoulders or shorts is NOT allowed by park security. You must wear an actual shirt with sleeves and long trousers/skirts.
Footwear & Terrain Tips
Exploring ancient archaeological structures involves walking on uneven stone pathways, climbing steep staircases, and traversing sandy ground.
- Comfortable walking shoes, athletic sneakers, or durable strap-on trekking sandals are highly recommended. Avoid high heels or flimsy flip-flops.
- You are expected to keep your shoes on while exploring the ruins, but you must remove your shoes and hats if you step directly inside an active indoor temple shrine area where a statue of Buddha is being worshipped or if your guide instructs you to do so.
Sacred Temple Conduct
- Do Not Touch: Ancient stone reliefs, bas-relief carvings, and delicate architectural features are highly vulnerable to oils from human hands. Avoid touching or leaning on structures.
- Keep Voices Low: Speak in soft, respectful conversational tones. Loud talking, shouting, or playing music out loud disrupts praying locals and visiting international pilgrims.
- No Smoking: The entirety of the Angkor Archaeological Park is a strictly designated smoke-free zone. E-cigarettes and vapes are also banned.
Photography Etiquette
Capturing beautiful travel memories is a major highlight of our circuits, but please snap consciously. Always ask for polite permission before taking up-close portraits of local monks or local residents. Furthermore, respect all designated "No Photography" signs placed inside sacred inner temple shrines or active Royal Palace rooms.
