Official QR Displayed on Arrival
VerifiedCambodia uses a dual-currency system: the Cambodian Riel (KHR) and the US Dollar (USD). However, the country is heavily de-dollarizing. Small USD notes ($1, $5, $10) are rarely accepted now. If you pay with a clean, crisp $100 or $50 bill, you will likely receive your change entirely in Cambodian Riel.
Any USD bill you carry must be absolutely pristine. Banks and vendors will refuse bills with even the tiniest tear, heavy creases, stains, or ink stamps. We recommend using ATMs that dispense Riel or new USD bills.
Yes! Cambodia is practically cashless for locals. You can download the Bakong Tourist App. This app is officially developed by the National Bank of Cambodia, ensuring it is safe and legal. You can download it from the official app stores:
Alternatively, check if your home country's banking app links with the KHQR network (popular for tourists from Thailand, Vietnam, and South Korea).
No. Phnom Kulen is a separate National Park and is not included in the standard Angkor Archaeological Pass. The entry fee is $20 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the checkpoint at the base of the mountain or pre-arranged through your guide for a seamless journey.
You can buy tickets online via the Angkor Enterprise Official Portal or in person at the official Angkor Ticket Center. Tickets are never sold at the temple gates. Avoid scammers trying to sell you tickets on the road.
Tickets are priced as follows: 1-Day pass ($37), 3-Day pass ($62) valid over 10 days, and 7-Day pass ($72) valid over 30 days. You do not have to use multi-day passes on consecutive days.
Angkor Wat is an active religious site. Both men and women must cover their shoulders and knees. Your shirt must have actual sleeves (no tank tops with scarves). If improperly dressed, authorities will deny you entry.
No. Flying drones inside the Angkor Archaeological Park is strictly illegal without prior, official permits from the APSARA Authority and the Ministry of Fine Arts. Unapproved drones will be confiscated instantly.
We recommend getting a physical tourist SIM at the airport arrival kiosks (SAI or PNH) for about $5-$10. Buying from street vendors may lead to your line being cut if they fail to properly register your passport details.
Smart Axiata: Excellent city speeds. Cellcard: Highly reliable with dedicated tourist bundles. Metfone: The most robust coverage in remote, rural areas and deep jungle temples.
Tipping is not legally mandatory but is deeply ingrained in local tourism culture and heavily relied upon by service workers.

No. Do not feed, pet, or get close to the monkeys. They are highly protective and prone to stealing belongings. Note: Monkey bites require immediate rabies medical treatment.
The heat can frequently hit over 35°C (95°F). We recommend planning tours for early morning (5:00 AM – 10:30 AM), resting at your hotel during the midday heat, and heading back out after 3:00 PM.
The "Golden Hours" (sunrise and late afternoon) provide the most dramatic light for stone reliefs. For lush green landscapes, visit during the Green Season (May–October). For crystal clear sunrises, the Dry Season (December–January) is best. Pro tip: Reach the northern reflection pond by 5:15 AM for the iconic silhouette shot.
For medical needs in Siem Reap, the primary options are Royal Angkor International Hospital (international standards), Neaktep Hospital (popular for quality at a more affordable price), and the Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital (the most budget-friendly public option for emergencies and basic care).
For reliable medicine and professional pharmaceutical advice, we recommend the following options:
For the most hygienic and delicious fruit shakes, we highly recommend Battambang Fruits Shake. They are famous for using fresh, high-quality ingredients and maintaining excellent cleanliness standards.
To experience real Khmer flavors and vibrant local life, we recommend these iconic locations:
